Box 27 - Rosewood Massacre

Box 27 contains materials from the Rosewood Massacre Collection dating from 1994–1995 and is arranged alphabetically by claimant surname. This box includes files for individuals and families such as Hall (Matthew, Ollie, Theresa, Thomas, Theodore, and Wilson), Hamilton (Theodore Sr. and Vera), Gooden (Viola, Yulonda, Ruby, Ruben Benard, and Clifford S.), Goins (Norman J., Leonard, Angela, and Girley Elizabeth), Fuller (Kathy Elain and Ivory Issac), Gantt, Barbara Gilison, Rev. & Mrs. Foster Garvin, and additional claimants including Frost, Doctor, and Feister.

The folders contain documentation related to the Rosewood claims process, including Rosewood Claims Bill checklists, claims information forms, extensive correspondence between claimants and state or legal representatives such as Robert A. Butterworth, Gregory Durden, and Frank M. Beisler, property affidavits (often multi-page), handwritten notes, memoranda, envelopes, and supporting legal or personal records such as birth certificates and certified statements.

For example, a typical folder may include a claims checklist dated July 7, 1994, multiple pieces of correspondence regarding claim eligibility or status, and a detailed property affidavit outlining losses, while others may include family documentation, affidavits with supporting evidence, or official memoranda tied to the adjudication process.
