Box 11 - Rosewood Massacre

Box 11 contains materials from the Rosewood Massacre Collection dating from 1994–1995 and is arranged alphabetically by claimant surname. The folders consist of individual claim files documenting the Rosewood Claims Bill process and include legal, personal, and supporting documentation submitted by survivors and descendants.

This box includes files for individuals such as Douglas, Gretchen; Donnell, Evans; Edwards, Wilbert Jr.; Edwards, Vivian; Edwards, Theo; Doctor, Phyllis T.; Doctor, Michael; Doctor, Gregory; Doctor, Ernie; Devard, Doris; Davis, Minnie Rich; Davis, George; David, Elouise King; Davis, Claude; Daniel, James; and Daniel, Henry, among others.

Records found within these folders include, but are not limited to, correspondence between claimants and legal representatives such as Gregory Durden, Robert Butterworth, and other attorneys; Rosewood Claims Bill checklists, claims information forms, and notes; affidavits and Rosewood survivor affidavits; property affidavits and land descriptions; lists of descendants and family trees; vital records such as birth certificates; identification documents including licenses; handwritten notes; fax transmissions; envelopes; and materials related to unresolved Rosewood claims.

Collectively, these materials document the administrative and legal processes of the Rosewood compensation claims while also preserving genealogical data, personal histories, and evidentiary records submitted by claimants and their families.
